[mnet-devel] Is this normal bootpage access?

Kyle:
Here's what *should* happen. What *should* happen is that each Mnet node
queries one randomly chosen bootpage per hour. Therefore the number of hits
per hour on your particular bootpage should be equal to the total number of
Mnet nodes divided by the total number of bootpages. The latter number is 7.
The former number is currently... <Zooko checks.>
Something around half-a-dozen, and in the last 24 hours its been something
around a dozen.
So that is what *should* happen, but Mnet nodes *also* hit a randomly chosen
bootpage whenever they find themselves unable to talk to any MetaTracker.
This has been happening far too often because the only running MetaTracker is
on my development machine, and my DSL provider yanks the IP address from under
it every few hours, at which point all Mnet nodes start frantically reloading
bootpages trying to find out the new IP address of the MetaTracker.
We really need more MetaTrackers.
Earlier I asked for MetaTrackers and emphasized that there should be only a
few of them and they should be highly reliable. Well, now we've changed it so
that MetaTracking is more scalable, and it is okay to have more MetaTrackers
and to have less reliable MetaTrackers.
So if you have a server that is semi-reliable and you want to run a
MetaTracker, please speak up!
