[mnet-devel] possible problems with ZNFF performance

[My continuing attempts to summarize IRC discussions for the mailing list.]

1.  Unit tests are storing many copies of things in RAM for testing purposes.

How to tell: try stripping out all the "testing" from test_fec.py so that it 
just performs the minimal fec.

2.  Bug in implementation.

How to tell: try the same thing as #1.  :-)

3.  mmap really slow on 100 MB files that get accessed in a pattern of bytes 
distributed evenly throughout the file?

Try the same thing as #1, I guess.

4.  Rizzo too slow with M >> 64.

How to tell: tweak it and see.

5.  Rizzo too slow, period.

How to tell: as above.
