[mnet-devel] HC plans

This is a quick outline of the things that we will be working on
relating to Mnet. Some of this will apply to the ongoing Mnet branch
(assuming some sort of -STABLE branch re-emerges and the two paths do
not diverge too much) and then there are areas of the Mnet codebase we
are leaving alone because we are replacing it completely or otherwise
don't use that particular functionality. We are working from the fork
Rob made of the code a while back (with a few of the more recent
changes folded in where they fixed problems rather than introduced
them) and this is the point we are hoping to move forward from,
provided there is sufficient ongoing overlap among the two systems.

What we are going to be working on:
-Tighter win32 integration and optimizations specific to that platform.
-Reducing the CPU/memory footprint of the node as much as possible.
-Introducing twisted event handlers, first to augment the DoQ and then
to replace the DoQ.
-Augmenting the security/auth structure where necessary to include the
concept of users in addition to nodes.

What we are not going to be touching:
-Metatracker stuff (other than making sure that our system can
continue to use an MT)
-Content tracking (thingtracker looks interesting, but we are doing
specialized content tracking using an internal system)
-EGTP (other than potentially rewiring the current protocol handlers
to use/provide a twisted Protocol interface)

Hopefully we can help out in those areas where we are all rowing in the
same direction, just realize that we are taking a slightly more
conservative path because we need something that works now and which
continues to work as we make changes.

Jim
