Jim gave me some advice on this subject a few weeks ago which I have taken to 
heart:

    Implement the user interface first!

I think incentives for Mnet should be designed from the top down, where the 
"top" is the user deciding whether or not to install Mnet, and whether or not to 
leave his node running when he goes to bed, and so forth.

I'm skeptical of the value of accounting code which tries to keep track of how 
much value other nodes have given to you until I see some plan for how the end 
user is going to be motivated by this.  Is she going to be motivated by cash 
rewards?  I don't believe it.  By the esteem of her peers?  I'll believe it when 
I see the user interface that ties her into a social network.  By getting better 
service from other people's nodes?  Then let's talk about how we can make that 
happen.

Bram is writing a paper about the bilateral "tit-for-tat" scheme that BitTorrent 
uses.  I'll ask him if we can all have a look at a pre-print.
