[mnet-devel] recent breakage

For the record, HEAD (v0.7) has been non-functional for an unknown time now.  
I think what happened is that we broke a bunch of stuff in the merge last 
week, and nobody actually tried *running* it, we just looked at the unit tests.

I don't think the way to improve things is to run it before committing!  
I think it is to improve the unit tests.

Anyway, I just fixed a bunch of stuff and ran it, and it seems to be running a 
block server.  Other services are currently broken because their handler funcs 
are still old-style, as per my previous message.
