[mnet-devel] wanted: metatrackers

We currently have three metatrackers for Mnet, but two of them are likely to
disappear in a month or two, as Oscar and I are both moving and we will lose
our internet connectivity along with the other disruptions attendant on moving.
MetaTrackers are pretty low-impact. The one I'm running on my workstation has
been up for about three days at the moment. (The only reason I restarted it
three days ago was to test some changes to the source code -- this is something
that other MetaTracker operators do not need to do.) It is currently using
less than 10 MB memory virtual, less than 6 MB shared. "top" tells me that it
has consumed less than an hour of CPU time in these three days.
The load on each MetaTracker is proportional to M/K, where M is the number of
Mnet nodes on the public Mnet, and K is the number of MetaTrackers. So if Mnet
becomes wildly popular, the load on MetaTrackers will go up. But hopefully if
that happens other people will also set up more MetaTracker to distribute the
load.
Things that are desirable but not really required for a MetaTracker:
1. Connected 24/7.
2. Can accept incoming TCP connections.
3. Likely to stay in operation over the next few months.
Even if your server doesn't have all these features, it can still be a useful
MetaTracker as long as it is at least somewhat reliable.
If you want to run a MetaTracker, please follow the directions in the FAQ:
http://mnet.sourceforge.net/faq.php#MetaTrackerSetup
Thanks!

P.S. Here is the entry in the issue tracker saying that we need more MTs:
